Players Attend Baseball Clinic

On Sunday November 1st, a group of kids were invited by Carlos Arriaga (brother of Coach Jimmy Arriaga) from the Fraim Boys & Girls Club to attend a "Wanna Play?" baseball clinic in south Philadelphia. The event was hosted by Major League Baseball and the Philadelphia Phillies. The youth-oriented baseball clinic featured a lineup of experts that included: Hall of Famer and ESPN broadcaster Joe Morgan; MLB Network analyst and former MLB All-Star Harold Reynolds; Phillies broadcaster and former MLB All-Star Gary Matthews; former Phillies All-Star Tony Taylor; and former Phillies first baseman Ricky Jordan. All the kids had a great time and even came home with some autographs and free baseball gloves. To view some of the video highlights, click here.

New KidSafe Background Check Program

We at the Community Athletic League are committed to the safety of our children and parents. Starting next season (Spring 2010), all board members, managers, coaches and umpires will be required to pass a criminal background check. This will be done on a yearly basis based on the advice of other leagues and the Wilmington Police Department. In addition to the criminal background check, all board members, managers and coaches must pass an online Cal Ripken coaching program and become certified. Information about the Cal Ripken coaching course can be found further down on this page. Both of these programs must be completed in order to be considered for coaching in the Community Athletic League. The cost for the background check is $20 and is valid for the entire 2010 season. To complete the background check, please visit the KidSafe site at:

Dave has spent countless hours on his days off and even taking some of his own vacation time to work on the fields this past season. The fields have never looked as good as they did this season.
